Dark Skies is a 2013 horror film, directed by Scott Stewart. It was released in the US on January 11, 2013, and stars Keri Russell, Josh Hamilton, Dakota Goyo and J. K. Simmons. In the town of Bridgeville every time there is a full moon people start going missing without explanation or trace. A young girl who goes missing from a train deep in the forest brings two detectives from New York to solve the mystery. Meanwhile, David has been targeted by a mysterious force and is being tormented by visions of his victims. Jordan Scott, freelance freelance film critic for Screen Daily, gave the film 2 out of 5 stars. While he enjoyed the movie he felt it was "a fairly standard creature feature that fans of this genre will lap up." He also commented on the lack of special effects and in particular in regards to the use of weather and lighting: "you can tell that there was minimal time and effort spent in creating convincing stormy weather scenes. The storm scenes are stunning but, unfortunately, this is the only aspect of the movie that is convincing. Scott explained that because it's based on a Japanese horror film "Dark Skies" was bound to be compared with "Terror in the Aisles" (2005). He added it to his list of films to avoid "because they are either poorly made and/or lame imitations".
